Weekly Blog Response Assignment

The Basic Assignment
After you have read each module and reviewed all assigned media, your task is to respond to each module on your own blog designed just for this course.

Each weekly blog response has three basic elements:
  1. Three Colleagues
  2. Two Questions
  3. One Paragraph Evaluation

Three Colleagues
  • Review three colleagues blogs each week and leave a positive comment.
  • Write a brief annotation for each and link to their blog in your blog.

Two Questions
  • In your blog each week, respond to two questions from that week's module.
  • Include relevant images and links to other media and useful websites.

One Paragraph Evaluation

  • Reflect on the value of the module's content and media.
  • Offer feedback and suggestions regarding course structure.

Beyond the Basic Assignment

EXTEND
For those looking for an extra challenge and extra credit, look for the EXTEND questions included in the Blog It! section at the end of each module.

Format
While there is lots of room in your weekly blog response for individual style, it is helpful for others when you follow some basic format considerations.

Among other things, readers need to know which module and questions you're responding to in your blog.

Managing Your Time
The authors understand how demanding your work can be and how important time is to educators. That's one reason why this course is asynchronous -- you have greater control over how and when you complete your work during the week.

But, there are limitations to remember.  Every Monday a new module is posted and your blog response is due the next Monday morning.

Even though there in no set time to meet or work for this course, it is strongly recommended that you split the tasks across the week using something like this simple model.
  1. Read and review the each new module on Monday. (2-3 hr)
  2. Review colleagues blogs on Tuesday. (1 hr.)
  3. Draft your blog response on Wednesday. (1-2 hr.)
  4. Review, revise and post your blog on Thursday. (1 hr.)
  5. Enjoy your weekend.
You can reasonably expect to reduce the amount of time required each week to complete your work as you gain familiarity and proficiency in blogging.

Substance, Style and Personalization Matters
Each blog is viewed
from these three perspectives:
  1. Substance: How well does the author address each module's content?
  2. Style: How well does the author apply professional principles including writing, design and use of various media?
  3. Personalization: How well does the author apply the course learning, resources and other media in their professional practices?
The following qualities are also appreciated when reviewing your blogs.
  • Clarity, brevity and accuracy in writing.
  • Creativity, completeness and attention to detail.
  • Timeliness and professionalism.
