Little Ice Age drives Tlinget across Icy Strait to Chichagof Island.
Long before Vancouver discovered Glacier Bay in 1794, ancestors of Tlinget had used the bay for its many resources.
Stories of advancing glaciers during the little ice age tell how Tlinget came to find themselves across the water where they now live.

1938 - Pelican is Re-Established
Miners and fishermen move into Lisianski Inlet after the Russians move out. Later, Rose's Bar and Grill becomes a Mecca for cultural cross-pollination.
The town becomes an important provisioning post for famous Woodford/Good expeditions into the area some 70 years later.

June 2007- Famous Captain discovers Glacier Bay - again.
He has fearlessly navigated many an expedition into Glacier Bay - frequently with on-board wildlife biologist Riley Woodford and oceanographer, Clay Good - and a dozen teenagers!

June 2009 - Famous Woodford/Good Expedition heads off to discover the legendary Lost Neka River Hot Springs - again.

Neka hot springs are said to be located near the end of a nine-mile long, bear-infested logging road in the ancestral lands of the Huna Tlingit.
Nine miles is a long way to walk for a bath. New methods of transportation would be required for this vanguard expeditionary team.

July 2009 - Woodford and Good discover the legendary lost portage of Chichagof Island - again.
Long before the dynamic duo of intrepid explorers could find the legendary lost hot springs, they were diverted to explore the legendary lost passage traditionally used by Tlinget to portage the short distance between two great water-ways.
